Surf's up in Southern California

Me.high-surf-620px
Surfers along the Southern California coast caught some big waves Sunday thanks to a large west swell, and weather officials said a high surf advisory will continue until noon Monday.

?The highest we got here was Ventura Harbor had 14 feet and Channel Islands Harbor had 10 feet,? said Stuart Seto of the National Weather Service in Oxnard, adding that the measurements were taken at 1 p.m. Sunday. ?Hermosa had 8 feet.?

The bulk of the wave energy came from a storm system from Alaska that slammed into Northern California on Saturday, sending a powerful swell moving down the coast over the weekend that peaked along the southern coast Sunday, forecasters said.

The surf is expected to lose strength Monday.
