Ashton Kutcher Popchips Ad Pulled Admist Racism Outcry

For a phony online dating ad - in which he stars on behalf of his role as Popchips' “president of pop culture" - Ashton Kutcher dons multiple costumes and pretends to be four different eligible bachelors.

There's a character named Raj, for example, that features the actor in brown face and and with an Indian accent.

And while it's all meant to be in good fun, many on the Internet have not reacted with laughter.

“I can’t imagine I have to explain this to anyone in 2012, but if you find yourself putting brown makeup on a white person in 2012 so they can do a bad “funny” accent in order to sell potato chips, you are on the wrong course," wrote Anil Dash, a tech blogger, in response to the spot. "Make some different decisions."

And Popchips now has: the company has pulled the ad from YouTube and Facebook, while releasing the following statement:

"The new Popchips worldwide dating video and ad campaign featuring four characters was created to provoke a few laughs and was never intended to stereotype or offend anyone. At Popchips we embrace all types of shapes, flavors and colors, and appreciate all snackers, no matter their race or ethnicity. We hope people can enjoy this in the spirit it was intended."

Emma Watson in Bling Ring: First Look!

In anticipation of her next big screen adventure - the film Bling Ring, which is based on a group of Los Angeles teens who broke into the homes of celebrities such as Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan - Emma Watson has Tweeted a photo of herself on set.

"Twitterers meet Nicki, Nicki meet twitterers : )," Watson wrote along with the above photo, adding: "Nicki likes Lip Gloss, Purses, Yoga, Pole Dancing, Uggs, Louboutins, Juice Cleanses, Iced coffee and Tattoos."

And we love Emma, one of the most grounded, well-spoken young stars alive.

Bling Ring will also feature Kirsten Dunst and Leslie Mann and be directed by Sofia Coppola. No release date has been announced yet.

Cornell students steer Pong using brain waves, can't quite play during naps (video)

We here at Engadget are always fans of brain wave experiments, and so we were delighted when two Cornell University electrical engineering students, Chuck Moyes and Mengxiang Jiang, wrapped up a final project using brain waves in the best way possible: playing Pong. Their experiment links a baseball cap full of EEG-scanning electrodes to a computer, letting the cap wearer control a paddle using Alpha or Mu waves. Depending on the waves you use, you can move the paddle either by changing your concentration level or by thinking about moving your feet. You won't rack up a high score while napping (or with a teammate narrating over your shoulder), but with a budget under $75, it's hard to find fault. Thanks To A ?Conflict Of Interest,? Target Said To Stop Selling Amazon?s Kindle

If you were planning to swing by your local Target to buy a Kindle some time soon, you may want to add a little pep to your step. An inside source told The Verge that Amazon's line of Kindle e-readers and tablets would soon disappear from Target's store shelves, due to an unspecified "conflict of interest." Sales of Amazon's hardware hasn't dried up just yet though -- that same source sent along an internal memo that points to May 13 (i.e. Mothers Day) as the point after which store stock would no longer be replenished.
